The Israel Air Force intercepted some of the rockets, while others fell in open areas, the military said.

Approximately 90 rockets were identified crossing from Lebanon towards the Upper Galilee and Haifa Bay on Wednesday, killing two people in Kiryat Shmona and wounding eight, the IDF and MDA announced. The IDF reported that 20 launches were detected in a barrage towards Kiryat Shmona alone.

The two killed were a couple, a man and a woman, both aged 40, Israeli media reported. They sustained fatal wounds due to falling shrapnel while walking their dogs and did not have time to enter the protected area, Ynet reported.

Eight wounded in latest barrage to Israel’s NOrth

Three people were treated by MDA paramedics in the Haifa Bay area. All three of the wounded were hit by shrapnel, one of which is a 16-year-old in moderate condition, and another is approximately 50 years old and suffering from light wounds, MDA reported.

A total of eight people were brought to the Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa for medical treatment, with one in serious condition and the rest suffering from minor wounds.

Along with those brought for medical treatment, another individual was wounded in a motorcycle accident that occurred while sirens were activated and is in moderate condition.

The Israel Police and bomb squads of the Northern District operated in the area of Kiryat Shmona following the barrage, where they determined the death of the man and woman.

In their statement, the police called on the public to refrain from going near areas containing shrapnel and rocket remains due to the fear that they may still contain explosive materials.

Police also handled shrapnel and rocket remains that were launched towards the Haifa area. They noted that there were several locations where interception fragments had fallen.

Five firefighter crews from the Galilee and Golan areas were deployed to Kiryat Shmona to extinguish fires that broke out as a result of missiles that hit the town.

The Hezbollah terrorist organization took responsibility for the barrage to Kiryat Shmona, Ynet reported.

In response, the IDF attacked and destroyed the rocket launcher from which the rockets were fired and fell in Kiryat Shmona, the military said later on Wednesday.

According to the IDF, approximately 90 rockets and projectiles were detected as crossing from Lebanon, some of which were intercepted by the Israel Air Force, and the rest fell in open areas. Crashes were detected in multiple areas.

Firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Authority worked to put out fires that broke out in the area.
