Kathmandu — Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, North Korea appears to be stepping up its military readiness. On Saturday, North Korea launched ballistic missiles from its eastern coast into the sea.
The South Korean military and the Japanese government confirmed that ten ballistic missiles were fired. Previously, North Korea had conducted short-range missile launches toward the East Sea on January 27.
According to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, the missiles were detected from the Sunan area at 1:20 PM local time. This marks the third ballistic missile launch by North Korea this year.
“Our military is fully prepared, and we are sharing information regarding North Korean ballistic missiles with the United States and Japan. Additionally, we are closely monitoring any further missile activity,” the JCS said.
The Japanese government is closely monitoring the situation. Japan’s coast guard confirmed that the suspicious ballistic missiles fired by North Korea have already landed in the sea.
This latest test comes as South Korea and United States conduct their annual spring military exercise, “Freedom Shield.” North Korea typically opposes these exercises, viewing them as preparations for war. The recent missile launch is likely intended as a show of military strength in response to the joint drills.
