In a separate statement, Kurdish security forces said the attack was carried out using explosives in a drone. So far no casualties have been reported in the incident. According to eyewitnesses, at least six explosions were heard in the area on Saturday.

Erbil’s airport has been attacked several times in the past year. Some of the attacks were carried out using drones. U.S. officials have blamed Iraq’s Shi’ite Muslim group for the attack.

However, no one has claimed responsibility for the incident. There are currently 2,500 US troops in Iraq under the counterterrorism program.
