Rituals to be Followed on the 6th Day

Devotees traditionally begin their worship by purifying themselves and their surroundings. They clean the altar, light a lamp (दीप), and prepare various offerings. The following rituals are key to today’s worship:

  • Invocation: Devotees invoke the presence of Goddess Katyayani through meditation and prayers. An image or idol of the goddess is placed on the altar.
  • Offerings: Flowers (especially red), fruits, honey, and jaggery are offered to the goddess, as red is considered her favorite color.
  • Mantra Chanting: Chanting the Katyayani Mantra is an essential part of the worship. The mantra, “ॐ देवी कात्यायन्यै नमः।” is recited with devotion to seek her blessings.
  • Aarti: A diya is lit, and devotees perform aarti while singing hymns and devotional songs.
  • Food Offering (Naivedya): Pomegranate and honey are offered as naivedya. After the worship, prasad is distributed among family members and devotees.
  • Closing Rituals: The puja concludes with a prayer of gratitude, thanking Goddess Katyayani for her protection and blessings.

Things to Do on the Sixth Day of Navaratri

  • Fasting: Many devotees observe fasts on this day, either by consuming light meals or only fruits to cleanse their bodies and souls.
  • Charity: Acts of charity, such as donating food or money, are considered important during Navaratri to earn divine blessings.
  • Kumari Puja: In some regions, young girls are worshipped as symbols of purity and as embodiments of Goddess Katyayani.

This day also holds significance in spiritual reflection and meditation. Devotees are encouraged to meditate on their inner strength and seek the goddess’s guidance to overcome life’s challenges.

Achievements of Goddess Katyayani

Goddess Katyayani’s greatest achievement is her victory over the demon Mahishasura. This symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and the strength of divine feminine power. Her divine energy, valor, and courage have made her one of the most revered forms of Goddess Durga. Worshipping her not only brings protection from negativity but also fills the devotees with confidence and success in all aspects of life.

As Navaratri progresses, the blessings of Goddess Katyayani help devotees find clarity, strength, and peace. This day is a reminder that no matter the obstacles, with faith and devotion, all challenges can be overcome.
