Jhapa, Nepal — Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), K. P. Sharma Oli, has congratulated Balen Shah, senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, for his victory in the Jhapa-5 House of Representatives election.

Oli extended his congratulations through a post on Facebook, wishing Shah a successful tenure in parliament. In his message, Oli wrote, “Balen Babu, congratulations to you on your victory. I wish your five-year term great success.”

According to the final vote count, Shah secured 68,348 votes, defeating Oli by a margin of 49,614 votes. Oli received 18,734 votes in the constituency.

Other candidates also received significantly fewer votes. Mandhara Chimoriya of the Nepali Congress secured 1,821 votes, while Ranjit Tamang of the Nepal Communist Party received 1,461 votes.

Shah’s victory in Jhapa-5 has drawn national attention, as the constituency has long been considered a strong political base of Oli. The result marks a significant shift in the region’s political landscape.
