Kathmandu. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is now trying to reach an agreement with the parties to get the MCC approved. Putting aside the need to expand the cabinet, Prime Minister Deuba is now trying to create an environment for the MCC to hold discussions in Parliament.
Before forming the coalition government, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s condition was that the MCC should be approved by the same parliament and for that the Maoist center, Jaspa and Madhav should support Nepal. Agreeing with Deuba’s condition, it was decided to give a vote of confidence to form a coalition government.
According to high-level sources, when the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved the parliament, Sher Bahadur Deuba’s emphasis was on going to the polls rather than reconstituting the parliament. Deuba had planned to form a government with the Nepali Congress as the largest party in the election and that government would get the MCC approval. For the same reason, Deuba did not protest against the dissolution of KP Oli’s parliament as much as Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prachanda, Madhav Nepal and Upendra Yadav did.
When KP Oli and Sher Bahadur Deuba decided to go to the polls, Prachanda, Madhav Nepal and Upendra Yadav insisted on re-establishing the parliament. But it was not possible to re-establish the parliament without Sher Bahadur Deuba. In this context, Sher Bahadur Deuba had put forward the condition of getting MCC approval. According to sources, Sher Bahadur Deuba had offered to lead the coalition government by becoming the prime minister but with the consent of the MCC.
Prachanda, Madhav Nepal and Upendra Yadav agreed to form a coalition government on the condition of Sher Bahadur Deuba to overthrow the KP Oli government and restore the parliament. Madhav Nepal had to cross the floor but KP Oli was ready to overthrow the government. Following the court order, everyone formed a coalition government by giving a vote of confidence to Sher Bahadur Deuba.
On the day of the vote of confidence, Bhim Rawal resigned. Bhim Rawal resigned after receiving a tip-off that the coalition government was getting approval from the MCC parliament. He later withdrew his resignation at the request of the people and top party leaders. Speaking in Parliament for the first time since withdrawing his resignation, Rawal protested against the game of passing the MCC.
Now we are talking about CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli who is closely associated with Sher Bahadur Deuba and MCC. Although KP Sharma Oli has spoken out against the MCC, he had tried hard to get the MCC approved when he was the Prime Minister. Despite strong opposition from leaders like Bhim Rawal within the UML, KP Sharma Oli was pushing for the MCC table. However, the MCC failed to table due to contradictions within the then CPN (Maoist) and the proximity of Speaker Prachanda.
When Sher Bahadur Deuba’s government was formed, KP Sharma Oli took the MCC as an opportunity to oppose the coalition government. KP Sharma Oli knows that Prachanda gets MCC approval from Sher Bahadur Deuba. However, high-ranking sources claim that they are trying to gain publicity by saying that they are in favor of nationality as if they are protesting against the MCC, but they are helping Deuba from within to get the MCC approved.
“KP Sharma Oli, while he was in the government, was trying to create an environment for MCC approval by ignoring the suggestions given by the MCC task force. The Prachandas had even said that they did not support the MCC table due to the dissolution of the parliament, but now seeing that the MCC’s opposition will not come to them, KP Oli has started opposing the coalition government. But KP Oli himself is advising Deuba to get MCC approval. ”
