Birgunj. A team of Nepal Police managed to arrest Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Revolutionary) Chairman Jayakrishna Goit in Patna, India but failed to repatriate him. A team from the Nepal Police, State 2 Office had reached Patna five months ago and arrested Goit.

However, sources said that he had to return home as the Home Ministry and the Police Headquarters did not provide necessary coordination and assistance to bring him to Nepal. A team of police inspectors from Nepal, with the help of Indian police, arrested Goit from where he was staying.

The Goit-led group has been carrying out underground armed activities in the Terai for a long time. The Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Jayakrishna Goit group) had last claimed responsibility for the last bomb blast at the Land Revenue Office in Lahan, Siraha in March 2008. After taking responsibility for the blast, the Chief of State 2, Police Office had requested a special team of Indian Police to assist in the search for Goit, who was under police surveillance. He was
rumored to have been arrested in the first week of April . The Indian government did not want to extradite him, as he had to be formally handed over or detained for committing a crime in India.

If the Inspector General of Police or his secretariat had coordinated, it could have been brought immediately, but it could not be brought after he reported in many places, ‘said a police officer who coordinated the arrest. According to the officials, Goit was arrested after working hard but could not be brought back due to the original leadership of the police.

Eight people were injured when a bomb exploded at the Land Revenue Office, Lahan on March 20. On the same day before the blast at the Land Revenue Office, the main leader of the Goit group Ram Vilas Yadav had surrendered at the District Administration Office. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a police station. In the evening of the same day, the Goit group claimed responsibility for the blast. The Goit group has continued its underground armed struggle even after all the underground groups operating in the Terai surrendered and entered the peace process.

“Earlier, Goit was ordered to be arrested anyway. After his arrest, there was an obstruction in India when he was brought to Nepal. The police headquarters may have coordinated and ordered to bring him to Nepal, but in the end he was ordered to leave, ‘said a senior police official. A special bureau of Nepal Police was also involved in the search for Goit.

According to a police officer, the arrest was made by the police office in coordination with the Indian police. “The Indian police officer wanted to arrest Goit and send him to Nepal to pay the price charged by the Nepal Police, but he had to be released as there was no initiative on our part,” the police said. According to the police, Goit was ready to come to Nepal. However, the obstruction arose after the Indian police, who had assisted in the arrest, refused to formally send him out of the post.

The last time the government formed a dialogue team was on September 26, 2006 and took the initiative to bring the groups on the path of violence into peaceful politics. Goit was also asked to come for talks. But the Goit group did not come to the talks. At the time, the government said 16 of the 44 armed groups had no activity. When the Goit group did not come to the talks, the government resorted to the strategy of suppressing it. Although the government negotiated and reached agreements with 26 groups, it kept the Goit group under surveillance.

The then government of Maoist Communist Center Nepal, Madhes Rashtra Janatantrik Party Krantikari, Samyukta Jatiya Mukti Morcha Nepal, Samyukta Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Azad Group), Tarai Military Morcha, Samyukta Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Kautilya), Federal Limbuwan State Council (Sanjuhang Palungwa), The Mongol National Revolutionary Party negotiated an agreement with the Madhesi virus killers.

Similarly, the government has introduced Janatantrik Tarai Madhes Mukti Party (Bhagat Singh group), Samyukta Jatiya Mukti Morcha Nepal (Aviral group), Samyukta Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Pawan group), Tarai Madhes Tigers Party, Janatantrik Tarai Mukti (Dr. Manoj Mukti), Tarai Samyukta. The Janakranti Party also brought Nepal into the peace process. Similarly, Tarai Mukti Morcha Krantikari (Avinash group), Tarai Janatantrik Party Madhes (Madhes Chaudhary), Akhil Janatantrik Tarai Morcha (Vivek group), Tarai Madhes virus and other groups had surrendered their weapons in the peace process.

Who are you?

Goit, who has twice been the UML candidate for the House of Representatives from Saptari Constituency No. 3, was defeated twice. After the split of the UML in 2054 BS, he joined the Maoists through the Maoists. When he was in UML and ML, he was known as an active leftist leader in the Terai. But Goit, who joined the Maoists in 2058 BS, was not included there either.

After leaving the Maoists, he opened an armed group under his own leadership and went underground. At that time, the Maoists had formed the Madhesi Rastriya Mukti Morcha under the leadership of Goit. After the Maoists removed Goit from the front and appointed Matrika Yadav as the coordinator, he formed the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha and resorted to violence. Goit has been underground since July 26, 2008. He is currently in Patna, India.
