Kathmandu — Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the Genji Movement.
Speaking at a candlelight vigil held on Saturday evening in Baneshwor, Kathmandu, Aryal expressed heartfelt respect for the brave protesters and police personnel who died while participating in the movement.
During the event organized to honor the martyrs of the Genji movement, Aryal said the uprising had played a crucial role in overthrowing the rulers of that time and laid the foundation for the political changes currently unfolding in the country.
“The Genji uprising had seized power from the rulers of that era. The power taken through that revolt is now also being reclaimed through constitutional and democratic means, as reflected in the vote count. The foundation of today’s political change lies in the Genji people’s movement,” Aryal said.
The Home Minister also expressed confidence that the demands raised during the movement would be fulfilled by the upcoming government. He added that they would continue to hold the government accountable to ensure those demands are addressed.
“We believe the demands raised by the Genji movement will be fulfilled by the next government, and we will continue to monitor and push for their implementation. We were on the streets in the past, and even if some colleagues have entered the government to fulfill responsibilities, they will return to the streets again if necessary. From the streets, we will both support and hold the government accountable,” Aryal stated.
