Biratnagar. Clashes have broken out between Indian police and local Muslims in the Jogbani area bordering Biratnagar. A clash broke out between Indian police and local Muslims on Friday evening when the Muslim community tried to enter India from Materwa Naka of Jogbani during the celebration of Moharram.
After the Indian police stopped the Muslim community from crossing the border to celebrate Moharram, they pelted stones at them. Clashes broke out between Muslims and Indian police after the stone pelting.
Even though the Muslim community celebrates Moharram in Nepal, it was banned in India due to Kovid. That is why the Indian police did not allow them to enter India, the source said.
The Muslim community has been celebrating Moharram with home-made weapons since the beginning of the Islamic New Year 1443 AH.
