Kathmandu. International Literacy Day is being celebrated in Nepal today through virtual and other means.
No physical attendance program has been held on the day due to Kovid-19, which is being celebrated under the slogan ‘Literacy for Human-Centered Recovery, Reduction in Inequality in Technology Use’. The Education and Human Resource Development Center has decided to plant trees in Bhaktapur today on the occasion of the day.
At present, the literacy rate of the over 15 age group is 67.9 percent. The literacy rate of males in the same group is 78.6 percent and that of females is 59.7 percent.
54 districts of the country have been declared literate. A total of 23 districts and 218 local levels are yet to be declared literate. At present, there are 27 thousand 818 community schools, 6 thousand 732 institutional (private) and 1130 traditional (religious) schools out of a total of 35 thousand 674 schools.
