Chinese authorities have detained two Tibetan students for protesting against the use of Chinese in Tibetan schools and for making Chinese the language of instruction.
According to Radio Free Asia, all schools in Tibet are under pressure from Chinese authorities to teach only in Chinese. Tibetans are protesting, saying the pressure is unacceptable.
One of the arrested is 19-year-old Guldrak. Police stating that the police is opposed to the Chinese social network after his arrest, while Tibetan students have begun to boycott class.
Chinese President Xi Jinping’s administration has begun enforcing such rules to expand its dominance in the autonomous region of Tibet. The two arrested students, Guldrak and Yangrik, are currently being held at the Darlag police station.
Earlier, Chinese authorities ordered the closure of schools that failed to teach Chinese. Beijing is also pressuring students to attend government schools. Recently, the Chinese government has launched a campaign to close private schools.
However, about 68 percent of private schools in Shanghai have English as the language of instruction.
